Happenings at the Guelph Country Club

Closing Lunch – September 28th 2021

First and foremost I would like to say how much I have enjoyed this year and the reason is because I have had such a wonderful group of ladies to work with. Week after week you have consistently responded to all my emails, tolerated my silly games and not fired any complaints at me. We have done extraordinarily well, not only did we make it through all the difficulties that Covid threw at us but we also battled on without a computer scheduling system. This proves that us old folks are more adaptable than we realized. Give yourselves a good pat on the back.

Well now on to the serious stuff, the presentation of cash and awards.
I’ll start with our silly weekly games first. I will start with the first 5 places and then after that it will be random, so be ready to accept your envelopes. I have copies of the payouts if you would like to look after we are done here.
In 1st. place with $73.25 is Kathy Gallant. 2nd. with 66.50 is Donna Knox
3rd. with $44.00 is Jeannine Robert’s. 4th. with $40.25 is Heather Shipman and 5th. with $40.00 is Sue Lavigne.

If anyone would like to see the overall results I have copies of the score sheets.
In closing I would very much like to thank the rest of the executive, they have worked through difficult circumstances.
Cathy Densmore, keeper of the bank, budget balancer extraordinaire and queen prize procurer , she wears so many 🎩, thank you Cathy.
Sue Martyn, keeper of the minutes, when we can get everybody together, general helper and along with Franki ran an excellent Field Day.
My Assistant and soon to take over as Captain 👩‍✈️, Teresa, I’ve already mentioned her hard work in other areas and she has been a great backup for me.
Sue Cunningham, along with helping Teresa with the match play and Scotch Two Ball has also worked with Teresa on Wednesday nights to keep the Twilight group so active, what a great job they do.
Fran as past Captain, has performed many duties and been a great asset in helping new members.
Even though she is not part of our executive, Franki Robinson diligently takes photographs on many occasions throughout the year and creates great memories for us all.
I would also like to thank all the Pro Shop staff and especially Paul Walton, they have had a very difficult time with Covid and of course the lack of computer software too.
That’s it folks, from now on book your own tee times and I’m not sending any more emails.

Thank you to Sue and Dave Lavigne for the photos from this event. Also, thank you to the Ladies’ Executive for all their hard work during a difficult Covid year. Celia Ferguson, our Captain did an awesome job in keeping the new events coming and organizing the teams each week, in an attempt for us to play with different folks. The computers will be up and running next season for another year of spectacular golf! Congratulations to all the winners!

Results Tuesday, August 31

Hello Ladies, some people shot some good scores out there yesterday, some not so good but handicaps are the great equilibrium, did I happen to mention handicaps again???
Anyway, congratulations to Colette who shot a gross 44, quite a score, good job she doesn’t qualify for the over 70s.
There was a tie for 1st. place with 2 teams at net 30. The 2 teams were Alison Cunningham, Colette Eston(naturally), Holly McDougall and Roberta Cathcart, Joann D’Antonio, Mary Jane Beingessner, each person has won $11.50 each.
The other teams all scored 32, 33 or 34, did I mention that handicaps work!

Now to the Over 70 Trophy.
Tied for 1st. this week with a net 32 were Dot Britt and Sue Martyn.
The top standings are now as follows:
Jeannine with 16.5, Teresa 16, Sue Martyn 15.5, Diane, Sue Lavigne and Franki with 14 each, Wendy and Roberta both have 12 then there are a large number with 11, 10, 9 etc.. It’s still a very tight race.

Don’t forget to email me by FRIDAY if you are not playing next Tuesday and thanks to those who have already done it.

Have a wonderful labour day weekend and remember the golf season isn’t over yet.
